It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we announce a serious, comprehensive course in calligraphy, manuscript illumination and bookbinding that is being offered in collaboration with the North Bennet Street School in Boston. This is a unique course - we know of no other place in this country where anything similar exists. Check out our blog to see what it's all about. For those of you unfamiliar with the North Bennet Street School, please visit their website at www.nbss.edu to learn about this fascinating trades school, where course offerings include Preservation Carpentry, Cabinet & Furniture Making, Jewelry Making & Repair, Violin Making & Repair, and of course, their Bookbinding courses.

The Manuscript Course will be offered during alternating fall semesters. The next offering will be during fall 2013. It is a full-time, full-semester course. Meeting everyday (Monday through Friday) from 8:30 to 4:30, September through December, students are completely immersed in the world of calligraphy, illumination, book design and bookbinding. We begin "at the beginning" so no portfolio submission is required, just a serious interest in calligraphy and the lettering arts. The curriculum will break down as follows:

6 weeks - in depth calligraphy

2 weeks - layout & design

1 week - manuscript gilding

1 week - computers & calligraphy

4 weeks - lettering, gilding and binding a one-of-a-kind hand made manuscript
